HCL Car Rental Car Rental Service
(Long, Unique, Customer-Friendly & Legally Safe)
At HCL Car Rental, we want your travel experience to be smooth, safe, and stress-free from the moment you pick up your rental vehicle. Our Baggage Policy outlines important information regarding luggage limits, safe loading practices, liability guidelines, and vehicle-specific storage capacity. These rules help ensure that your journey is comfortable and compliant with safety standards while protecting both you and our fleet.
- Understanding Vehicle Baggage Capacity
Each rental vehicle comes with a different amount of trunk space, interior room, and weight tolerance. For the comfort and safety of all passengers:
- Compact cars typically accommodate 1–2 medium suitcases
- Sedans can hold 2–3 standard bags
- SUVs generally allow 3–5 suitcases depending on seating configuration
- Minivans and larger vehicles provide the highest cargo volume
- Luxury vehicles may have design-specific trunk limitations
Exceeding the recommended luggage capacity may affect driving performance, fuel efficiency, and vehicle handling. Always choose a vehicle size that fits the needs of your trip.
- Prohibited Items
To protect your safety and prevent vehicle damage, the following items may not be transported in any rental vehicle:
- Flammable liquids (gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid)
- Explosives or fireworks
- Toxic chemicals or hazardous materials
- Unsecured propane tanks or gas cylinders
- Any cargo that emits strong odors or liquids that can damage upholstery
- Illegal substances, weapons, or items prohibited by law
Violations of this policy may result in additional cleaning fees, repair charges, or legal consequences.
- Weight Limits and Loading Guidelines
Rented vehicles must not be overloaded beyond the manufacturer's recommended Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Overloading may result in:- Tire blowouts
- Difficulty steering
- Brake failure
- Increased accident risk
- Mechanical damage
HCL Car Rental reserves the right to charge for repairs caused by misuse, unsafe loading, or exceeding weight limits.
- Proper Securing of Cargo
To ensure the safety of passengers and prevent damage:- Store heavy items in the trunk or cargo area
- Avoid placing loose luggage on seats or dashboards
- Do not obstruct visibility through rear windows
- Use seat belts, cargo nets, or storage straps when necessary
- Ensure the trunk and doors fully close without applying force
Unsecured baggage may shift during travel, creating hazards or causing interior damage.
- Roof Racks, Bike Racks, and External Carriers
Certain vehicles may be equipped with factory-installed roof racks; however:- Additional racks or carriers cannot be installed without prior approval
- Customers are responsible for ensuring all externally mounted items are properly secured
- Any damage to the roof, rack, or vehicle due to improper installation is the renter’s responsibility
HCL Car Rental recommends renting a larger vehicle instead of overloading a small car with external carriers.
- Personal Belongings and Liability
HCL Car Rental is not responsible for:- Loss of personal items
- Theft of luggage left inside the vehicle
- Items forgotten after vehicle return
- Damage to baggage caused by improper packing or placement
- We strongly advise customers to:
- Keep valuable items out of sight
- Always lock the vehicle when unattended
- Double-check the trunk and interior before returning the vehicle
Your belongings remain your responsibility at all times.
- Special Equipment, Sports Gear & Oversized Items
If you plan to travel with oversized cargo — such as strollers, golf clubs, surfboards, skis, or musical equipment — please inform us during the reservation process. Our team will help you select a vehicle that can safely accommodate these items.
Oversized baggage may require:- An SUV or minivan
- Folded seats for extra storage
- Alternative loading instructions
Improper transport of large items may violate the rental agreement.
- Cleaning & Damage Fees
You may be charged additional fees if baggage:- Tears or scratches the interior
- Leaves stains, spills, or odors
- Causes damage to seats, floor mats, or trunk linings
- Avoid placing dirty or wet luggage directly on upholstery
- Use protective covers when transporting equipment
- Handle sharp or heavy items with care
- Right to Refuse Rental
HCL Car Rental reserves the right to refuse or cancel a rental if:- The luggage visibly exceeds the safe load capacity
- Prohibited items are detected
- Unsafe transport practices are observed
This is to protect the renter, passengers, and the integrity of our fleet.
- Travel Safely, Pack Smart, Drive Confidently
At HCL Car Rental, your safety and comfort are our priority. By following this Baggage Policy, you help ensure a smooth, reliable, and worry-free rental experience. If you have questions about luggage capacity, vehicle selection, or special cargo requirements, our team is always here to help.
